Why RDF?
- It is generic enough - anything with an URI is a resource and can be described
in RDF
- It is a unique framework but, with different rdfschema and vocabularies
it allows building of:
- different coexisting views to the world
- it is suitable for different needs and different communities
- it allows different authorities - no single God Organised Directorate
- it allows a gradual (=feasible, =sustainable...) approach - e.g. schema
can inherit definitions from previous one (eg DC, OpenGIS) and add only
what is necessary for the single community
- it is good for assigning simple attributes to resources ("metadata")
but also to build more complex relations between resources
